Sharks When the children returned to school, they were keen to talk about sharks. They were excited to watch film clips about the Hammerhead and Great White sharks and learned lots of facts about them. Did you know that a shark has seven rows of teeth which can be as many as three hundred teeth in total? When a shark loses a tooth, another takes its place. We learned that sharks have gills for breathing and that their skeleton is cartilage rather than bone. The children have also enjoyed reading the story, ‘Shark in the Dark’ and are beginning to find out about other sea creatures they have discovered.
Shortly before the world was put on hold by the Coronavirus outbreak, some Year 3 and 4 children visited the Head of Steam in Darlington, to take part in the ‘Museum by Me’ project. The children were asked to choose one object from the museum which they felt connected to, sketch it and most importantly, say why they had chosen it. They were then given the opportunity of working with a local artist to re-create their object, which would be part of the Museum by Me exhibition. The children and their families worked hard with local artist Suzie Devey and produced some fabulous pieces of work. We are extremely proud of the children and what they achieved. The exhibition of the children’s work was due to take place at Preston Park Museum in April but unfortunately this was cancelled due to the recent pandemic. However, despite this, head of Steam and Tees Valley Museums still wanted to share the work of our children and their families with you through some short videos, which you can watch via the links below. Lucy Noah Alicia, Harry & Ellie Eva Tilly Mrs Morrow has spoken to the Northern Echo regarding the children’s experience with Head of Steam and Museum by Me.
